Social Entrepreneurship and Sustainability

I believe we need to change the way we consume and do business, so that we align the interests of all parties: People, Planet, Profit.

Since making my documentary on Social Business in 2012, I have held conferences at various organisations/institutions such as UNESCO, Convergences, Harvard, Boston College, The Lab etc, as well as at many film festivals around the world.

"C like Diamond" and Women Conferences

I have been involved in various women initiatives for years, such as leading the development of Harvard Alumnae groups in France with the Harvard Club of France. This has made me realise that women and female values are essential to lead the transition. If women are integrated - economically, politically, socially - the whole community is also integrated.

A few years back, at 45, I was reflecting about my life, writing my long-awaited journal, when I noticed that most values and themes which crossed my path started with C, just like the Diamond's 4 Cs (Clarity, Colour, Cut, Carat). I then realised that we all had a Diamond in us that we needed to reveal to live a fulfilling life. "C like Diamond" was born.

Diamond Leadership with COURAGE - Clarity

  • Courage gives you the Heart to act and go after your dreams.

  • With Clarity, you know what you are acting for.

  • When you are Clear about what you want, you have the Courage to rise above and reach the top.

Diamond Leadership with CREATIVITY - Colour

  • Creativity puts Colour into your life.

  • Creativity wakes up the artist in you and reconnects you with your Childhood.

  • By exploring your inner Creativity, you will see opportunities - and colors - you didn't know existed.

Diamond Leadership with COMMUNICATION - Cut

  • Communication comes in all shapes and is essential to sharing your Vision.

  • You most effectively communicate your ideas when you do so with Passion and Compassion.

  • Speak Up! Your Voice will be heard and your message will cut through.

Diamond Leadership with CORPOREALITY (CONNECT with your BODY) - Carat

  • Your Body never lies, unlike your brain.

  • Connecting with your body, you recognise your weaknesses to identify your Energy.

  • Corporeality allows you to channel your energy into your work and personal Life.

The 4C's are keys, 4 complete ways to unlock your inner Diamond. You need to use all keys to create your perfect diamond, the one leading you to a better quality of life. It is achievable and quite simple, which does not mean it is easy. When you shine, everyone around you benefits, including strangers.

Revealing the Leader in you positively impacts the world.

Teaching

Teaching

Teaching is a natural extension of all my interests. I have been lucky to have studied in amazing educational environments, with inspiring teachers and mentors, at Punahou School in Hawaii, at Harvard, Cambridge, and Sciences Po Paris. Now it is my great pleasure and honor to teach and give back all I have received when I was a student.

Over the years, I have held several lectures on Social Enterprise in schools and universities, along screenings of my documentary "Social Business, a New Path for Capitalism?". This year, I have created two courses, one on Sustainable Finance and another one on the Path to Entrepreneurship for the American Business School in Paris, Sciences Po School of Public Affairs and School of Management and Innovation.

The current crisis makes the transition to a more sustainable system increasingly urgent; therefore, I intend to dedicate more time teaching students who soon will be young professionals and entrepreneurs and will lead the transformation to a New Economy.

My approach to teaching combines academic thinking with practical reasoning and business acumen. I encourage students to think critically on how collectively and individually we can lead the transition.

SUSTAINABLE FINANCE - How to Make Finance Work for the Economy, Society and the Planet

Following the 2008 financial crisis, finance has widely been seen as an obstacle to a better world. In this course, we will see why finance concerns us all and how the financial system can be mobilised towards achieving social and environmental goals, as well as a more inclusive economy.

Finance is the control center of the economy, which is embedded in society, itself resting on the planet. The financial system has focused on maximizing its own returns, ignoring long-term externalities. This has been justified by economic flawed theories which have supported political decisions, as well as unsustainable business practices. As a result, the environment is being damaged at the fastest pace in history, and populism and inequality have risen jointly with economic growth.

The Covid crisis has highlighted the dysfunctions of our current paradigm, making the need for rewiring finance, and redesigning capitalism, even clearer. Sustainable Finance has a key role in reshaping global markets, business and politics. And we all have a role to play.

THE PATH TO ENTREPRENEURSHIP - Exploring our WHY

Business and labor have changed, in particular since the 2008 crisis, with an increasing number of entrepreneurs. This trend is likely to accelerate with the current crisis. The traditional model of lifelong employment in the same firm or industry is no longer a panacea. Instead, launching a business has become in vogue and is often equated to freedom, recognition, and more money.

There are many aspects to being an entrepreneur. Pragmatic ones such as product, structure, funding, to immaterial ones such as questioning our vision, mission and motivation. Entrepreneurship is as much an « existential » venture as a financial/material one.

It takes courage to hop on the entrepreneur’s journey and this requires clarity at both personal and professional levels. Hence, in this course we explore the « WHY » which all aspiring founders should address when taking the challenging path to entrepreneurship. This is the first step to all business creation, actually to all acts of creation, inspiration and leadership.
